What is team Gym ????
Australian Team Gym Program
Team Gym combines parts of tumbling, mini tramp and dance to create an exciting team competition event. You get to flip, roll, jump and dance with your friends. Team Gym is huge in Europe, with strong teams of kids ,teenagers and young and old adults pitting their skills and teamwork against other teams. The Australian Team Gym program has been developed for teams of gymnasts, with performances on 3 different apparatus.
Teams perform on the following apparatus:
– Vaulting / Mini trampoline (trampette)
Teams can have a minimum of six and maximum of twelve members but depending on individual strengths, not everyone needs to perform on every apparatus. In addition, members can also be interchanged or increased/decreased during performance apparatus passes (ie: 1st tumbling run 10 members may perform, 2nd tumbling run 8 members may perform or the 10 may be made up of different members).
Team Gym is a useful program for clubs to retain members in a team event which encourages individual skill development and team work. The program is split into novice, intermediate and advanced levels and has the potential to incorporate harder skills depending on coach and gymnast competencies.
Swan Districts Gymnastics have developed a Team Gym program which is suitable for all ages and abilities and competed in state and national competitions in the intermediate and advance levels for the past 3 years. We have been extremely successful boasting an overall Silver placing for all events in 2017, 2018, 2019 for our advanced team and a bronze in 2018 and silver in 2019 for our intermediate team. Our GOLD placing floor routines always impresses the judges and spectators alike.
If you would like to view our 2019 athletes in action head down to Loftus (state gymnastics centre) on the 10th November to support Swan Districts Team Gym athletes and see if we finally get Gold. More details will be on the Gymnastics WA website.
2020 we are aiming to have a Open (International team) Advanced travel team, Intermediate travel team, Intermediate club team and a Novice club team.
